Broadway Makers Marketplace (BMM)
Hybrid consignment + marketplace e-commerce platform for the Broadway maker community, co-founded and operated with Michael Clarkston. Custom Shopify storefront on Liquid, Hydrogen 2, Remix, TailwindCSS, and TypeScript with vendor self-management; operational data layer spans a Data Studio vendor-payout tool, Retool, Airtable, Notion, and a self-hosted Chartbrew fork.
The thesis
BMM is the sequel to Broadway Bazaar, designed around its hardest lesson: one storefront with one supply chain has a single point of failure. BMM is a hybrid consignment + marketplace platform where a community of Broadway makers list and manage their own products — two payment flows and two fulfillment flows reconciled in one storefront.
Platform
Custom-developed storefront on Shopify's modern stack: Liquid, Hydrogen 2, Remix, TailwindCSS, and TypeScript. Vendor self-management designed in from the start so makers onboard, list, and manage products without developer involvement.
Operational data layer
A master orders database (every order ever, vendors keyed by Seller ID) feeds a Google Data Studio payments tool that computes per-vendor line-item breakdowns for consignment payouts — the reporting system vendors are actually paid from. Supplemented by Retool, Airtable, and Notion internal tooling plus a self-hosted, customized Chartbrew instance (fork: github.com/chal0326/chartbrew-bmm) for live sales, traffic, and vendor dashboards.
Enablement
Seller onboarding documented as step-by-step Tango workflows so non-technical partners run vendor recruitment independently — the origin of the 'built for hand-off' philosophy that now defines the client practice.
Growth analytics
Monthly sessions-by-referrer analysis; on-site search-term mining (Flourish bar-chart-race, Oct 2021–May 2022) to surface demand gaps; Pinterest Conversion API integration; Instagram demographic analysis (81% female, 39.8% aged 18–24) used to tune content across Instagram, TikTok, and Facebook.
Status
After what was supposed to only be a pop up store for a couple weeks before the Holidays in 2021, turned into an 18 month project that came down just as quickly as it went up. I am grateful for the opportunity that I had to be able to use and refine my skillset with this project.
